Digital Learning

Durack School has an ongoing commitment to the use of digital technologies as a tool for teaching and learning. We have chosen Apple iPads as our platform for digital learning and place a strong emphasis on integrating technology into teaching and learning with a focus on experiences that encourage the use of technology for communication, creativity and critical thinking.

1:1 iPad Learning Program

In 2021, students in Year 3 and 4 will be participating in Durack School’s 1:1 iPad Learning Program. Each student will have an iPad assigned to them to be used in learning experiences through the day in all curriculum areas. It is planned to extend the 1:1 iPad program to other year levels in the next 2 years.

The 1:1 iPad Learning Program provides students with the foundation of knowledge, skills and confidence in using Information Technology they will need in our increasingly technological society. Students will be using the iPad as a tool for learning. Throughout the year they will use iPads for communicating their ideas with others, creatively demonstrating their knowledge and for locating and evaluating information. They will also participate in lessons on limiting the risks to themselves and others in a digital environment.

Students will be responsible for caring for this device in the classroom environment and will continue to follow the school’s Acceptable Use Agreement for Technology.

Digital Learning in the Primary Years

In 2021, students in Years 3 to 6 have access to a variety of technology including laptop computers, iPads, robotics and augmented reality technology.

Students use these technologies as a tool for learning in projects across curriculum areas. To support student skill building with technologies, we provide lessons in how to use a carefully chosen suite of apps and programs and staying safe in a digital environment.

Students also participate in a Digital Technologies Introduction program where they experiment with a variety of technologies, such as Micro:Bit, Sphero robotics and Minecraft, facilitated by an adult who is familiar with that technology. This program provides the time students need to develop knowledge and skill about the available technologies, so that they can begin to use them for projects in support of their learning.

Digital Learning in the Early Years

Students in Early Years classes have access to a shared class set of iPads. Students utilize these devices as a tool for learning across a range of curriculum areas to build information technology skills, access information and creatively demonstrate their learning.
