Special Education

Some students may require additional support in developing the academic, social or emotional skills required to be an active and effective member of the community.

How is support provided?

Support is provided through the Special Education teacher who works with teachers and advisors to identify and implement strategies to support specific students and monitor their progress.

  • Special Education Support Assistants who support eligible students in classrooms
  • Programs to support reading and visual memory eg MultiLit and VAMP

Students are placed in programs according to observed behaviours, academic progress, and/or specialist recommendations. Programs can be provided for students who demonstrate a considerable delay in age appropriate skills.

We also have a close liaison with the support services in the community including:

  • The Child Development Team who assess children's speech, occupational and physiotherapy needs
  • Student Services, NT Dept. Of Education, who assess children's cognitive ability, and provide programming and planning support for students with hearing, vision and behavioural needs
  • private therapy services
  • public and private paediatricians
