The Arts

The Arts are seen as a very important part of the curriculum as it is focused on enjoyment and assists children develop confidence and enhance their learning in other curriculum areas such as literacy and numeracy.

About our Arts Program

A specialist teacher, teaches Visual Arts. Visual arts education helps students develop critical thinking skills, which in turn lead to a deeper understanding of educational content — both within the arts and in other core subject areas. Visual arts education also fosters creativity in students and increases student engagement in the following ways:

  • Strengthens critical thinking
  • Encourages student engagement
  • Fosters creativity

Students in years 5 to 6 are able to participate in the school choir. Every Year the Year 5/6 choir participate in the Beat Festival.

Teachers from the Northern Territory School of Music offer instrumental music tuition to students in Years 5 and 6. The program runs at Durack School and students come out of their regular class once a week for 30 minutes to attend lessons with an NT Music School teacher. Please check the website www.ntms.net.au
